One of the national festivals of English-speaking countries is Halloween. Halloween is on the 31st of October. This day is the eve of All Saints’ Day. The word «Halloween» is hundreds of years old.

Halloween is the holiday of vampires, witches, ghosts and other evil spirits. Today, people do not believe in ghosts and witches but they like to tell stories about them on Halloween.

In these day children wear costumes and masks with their images and go trick-or-treating. Many of them carve Jack-o’-lantern. People make it from pumpkin.

It was considered that pumpkin left about the house on All Saints’ Day drove off malignant demons. The song “Monster Mash” by Bobby Pickett is an informal hymn of this festival. On this day parties are held and people put on suits of the terrible creatures and monsters from films.

Besides that games and fortune-telling are widely spread on Halloween. On this holiday television broadcasts a lot of horror films and animations. Halloween has been gaining in popularity in Russia recently.
